***If you are enrolled in RQI for BLS, you cannot register for the in-person class.***

This is a blended course, you must complete the online portion prior to your class.

  • Access the HeartCode BLS eLearning at https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartcode-bls to register and complete the online portion - $37.00.
  • Please add the HeartCode BLS eLearning to cart, checkout by registering and complete prior to your class.
  • PRINT OUT the certificate from the online portion and bring it with you to the VHC class. you can print the certificate in your deparment.  You cannot take the class without the PRINTED CERTIFICATE, if you arrive without it, you will be asked to reschedule and charged for the missed class. Showing a copy of the certificate on your phone is not acceptable.   
  • You must take the classroom portion no more than 60-days after completing the online portion.

If you have issues accessing the website, please copy and paste link into Google Chrome. Complete the online course and obtain the certificate. Bring the certificate with you to class. Certificates are only good for 60 days. If you show up to the class without the certificate, or arrive after the start time, you will not be allowed in the class and you will be charged a no show fee (see terms and conditions for more details).

About the class:

Class duration is 2 hours. No "Drop In" students will be allowed, all students must be registered for the class. Children of attendees are not allowed. CPR eCards are issued within 20 business days after class completion. Participants will receive an email from the American Heart Association (AHA) with instructions on how to claim their cards. Reimbursement of online portion fee ($37.00) may be requested through employee's manager. Slip provided after class must be provided to your manager as proof of course completion until your eCard is available. If you took the online portion and had to pay $37.00, your manager will give you a petty cash slip to take to the cashier for reimbursement. Please allow ample time for travel and/or parking arrangements, as late arrivals will not be allowed to participate in the class.

**Once you have completed the course requirements your card will be issued within 20 business days, in accordance with AHA Guidelines.**

Terms and Conditions for BLS:

VHC Employees – if BLS is required for current position: employee will pay $37.00 for online portion, which will be reimbursed after successful completion of the classroom portion; there is no charge for the classroom portion unless the employees fails to attend or does not provide at least 72 hours’ notice of cancelation.  Failure to attend or cancel 72 hours prior will result in a $25 deduction from the next paycheck. If you show up to the class without the certificate, or arrive after the start time, you will not be allowed in the class and you will be charged a no show fee.

VHC Employees – if BLS is not required for current position: employee will pay $37.00 for online portion, which will not be reimbursed; there is a $50 charge for the classroom portion, due at time of registration. Failure to attend or cancel before 72 hours will result in a $25 deduction from the next paycheck. If you show up to the class without the certificate,  or arrive after the start time, you will not be allowed in the class and you will be charged a no show fee.

Non-VHC Employees – Payment due at time of registration. There will be no refund if the participant fails to attend or cancels less than 72 hours in advance. If you show up to the class without the certificate, or arrive after the start time, you will not be allowed in the class and you will be charged a no show fee.

 

***Staff requiring ACLS in their job description no longer need to maintain BLS separately. If an employee would like to maintain a certification not required for their job description the employee will be charged for the class and will not be reimbursed. 

 

PARTICIPANT ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

This course teaches skills for saving lives after cardiac arrest, and is geared for providers in both in-facility and prehospital settings. It requires the inherent performance of physical skills that may be arduous and possibly result in physical strain or injury. You must advise your instructor of any physical limitations, injuries or disabilities that require accommodation at least two (2) business days prior to your scheduled course by sending an e-mail to cpr@vhchealth.org You understand passing a skills test is an American Heart Association course completion requirement, and that limitations which prevent you from doing so will prohibit your receipt of a course completion card or eCard. Please be aware that you will spend a great deal of time on the floor on your hands and knees.

If you have any medical or cardiac history that may be aggravated by the performance of physical activity, you should consult your physician and ask for advice as to whether you should participate in this course.

 CPR training sessions involve close physical contact with other students. If you are ill or have an infection, including but not limited to open sores on your mouth or hands, please reschedule your class for your safety and the safety of the other participants.

 By registering for this course you hereby acknowledge and assume the above-mentioned risks, in addition to any harm, injury or loss that may occur to yourself or your property as a result of your participation in it, and waive any and all claims against Virginia Hospital Center Arlington Health System, its officers, directors, employees, agents, and other contractors connected with or arising out of your participation in it.

                                        

 The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all AHA courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the AHA.
