Course Description:

The preceptor course is a 4 hour session designed to prepare nurses, therapists and VHCPG medical assistants to help new employees transition to their roles. The class focuses on the following topics:

Roles of the  Preceptor, Teaching and Learning Styles, Adult Learning Principals, Generational Connections, Benner’s Novice to Expert Skill Acquisition, Giving Effective Feedback, Conflict Resolution, and Tools/ Resources for the Preceptor. Manager approval is required.

The class is limited to 20 students. 3.9 contact hours are awarded.

You will be clocking in and out while attending this course. It is your responsibility to ensure your unit work schedule reflects your registration. Working the night preceding or following this course will prohibit you from attending and you will be turned away at the door.

Prior to enrolling in this course please review the required criteria below:

• Manager approval must be recieved
• Must complete initial 90 days of hire
• Last evaluation must be commendable or higher
• Recommended greater than 6 months experience

About the Class:

Please arrive early and be in your seat at the start time of the class. You will not be allowed late entry. No "Drop In" students will be allowed, all students must be registered for the class. Children of attendees are not allowed. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will be given a link to complete a survey. A Contact Hour certificate of completion will be emailed to you after you complete the survey, staff are responsible for saving this certificate.

This class may be cancelled due to lack of enrollment, if this occurs, you will be given a minimum of 48 hours notice.

VHC Employees – Failure to attend or cancel 72 hours prior to the class will result in a cancellation fee of 40.00 dollars being deducted from your VHC paycheck.
